Who am I?

I go weak at the knees for orange flavoured chocolate. I live with my two best friends – my partner and my furry k-9. My very bad habits include nagging all the time, whilst my bad habits include nagging sometimes.

I haven’t turned on the television for 3 years – there is so much more to do in life now! One thing that really bothers me is cyber rage – people that hide behind their keyboards and spread their hatred and poison. For those who know their astrology I am extremely neptunian but I have it mostly under control.

Interests (Gee the pressure of sounding interesting)

  • travel
  • hiking
  • camping
  • furry animals
  • not washing my hair and seeing how long I can get away with it for
  • film making (I usually play the fool as you will see from my videos)
  • film watching
  • book collecting (including first editions which is the equivalent to hunting for gold treasure).
  • collecting stuff from my childhood including smurfs, toys board games and electronic games-remember the Nintendo games and watch?
  • reading and writing

Movies Although I don’t watch television anymore, this doesn’t preclude me from watching movies. I could write a never-ending list of good movies – to name a few:

  • The lives of others
  • Apocolypto
  • Lucky Miles
  • The Proposition
  • Offside
  • Deliverance
  • The man from earth
  • Pans Labyrinth
  • A Clockwork Orange
  • The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe
  • In My Fathers Den
  • Rear Window
  • 12 Angry Men
  • Kill Bill
  • The Weeping Camel

Music I don’t really have a favourite style of music. If the song ‘moves’ me in some way then I consider it a good tune.

  • Old dance club anthems
  • Joy Division
  • Jeff Buckley
  • Tim Buckley
  • Dead can Dance
  • Smashing Pumpkins
  • REM
  • David Carson’s The haunting of Saint Michael (listen to ‘Eternity‘- it’s really good)
  • Usually anything that sounds funky

Reading takes me to another place… I still love children’s books so I am not sure what that says about me!

  • I confess Stephen King (especially the Dark Tower collection)
  • The Kite Runner
  • Life of Pi
  • Enid Blyton
  • A wrinkle in time
  • The Picture of Dorian Gray
  • Pygmalion
  • Lord of the Flies
  • Roald Dahl
  • Dr Suess (you just can’t go past go dog go and Wacky Wednesday)
  • The Narnia books
  • The Book Thief
  • Paul Gallico (Thomasina &Jennie)
  • T.S Elliot

    Hi Katherine!

Long time no talk! I am heading for Afghanistan yet again, in Sept, for 10 months… The up side is that I’ll get 2 2-week holidays, and I thought climbing the Kilimanjaro would be a good one. I remember you mentioning you climbed it, unless it was Inca delirium… I’d like to get more info from you, and which company you used, if you recommend it.
Thanks and looking forward to hearing back from you!
Hope your Facebook-free life is going well :)

Hi! I like the beams and the red fireplace and the way it looks. What colour did you use for the beams/window? I have beams I need to paint and am ‘terrified’ of making them look hoaky brown. Thanks so much! Amy

Hi Amy . We used mission brown (trim for doors and windows) -sounds awful doesn’t it! But it works really well, especially with the white walls and red fire place. I must do an update of the house on the blog but I have been so preoccupied – we are pleased with the final result although after spending 7 months renovating we had a recent hail storm with hail stones the size of tennis balls that have caused some damage to the house – broke 12 of our windows – ah well a true renovators work is never done! I spent a bit of time on your blog, it gave me that warm and cozy feeling!
